Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an award-winning author of 16 books, two of which have been made into movies. She writes about women, immigration, the South Asian experience, history, myth, magic and celebrating diversity. Booklist calls her new novel, One Amazing Thing, “A wise and beautifully refined drama. . . . Divakaruni writes both for adults and children and her books have been translated into 20 languages. Her novel The Mistress of Spices was included on the San Francisco Chronicle’s list of 100 Best Books of the 20th Century. Her collection of short stories, Arranged Marriage, won an American Book Award and her work has appeared over 50 anthologies including The Best American Short Stories, O. Henry Prize Stories, and a Pushcart Prize anthology. She teaches creative writing at the University of Houston.
